The US Star Wars program, now called National Missile Defence (NMD), is an offensive space battle system intended to allow the US to attack other countries without fear of retaliation.

Australia is involved in research and development and will be involved in deployment of NMD. Using Pine Gap for NMD will make Australia a target for a nuclear or terrorist attack. NMD will provoke a regional nuclear arms race and will destroy political and economic relations with China. This is against Australia's interests.

It will destroy existing arms control and disarmament treaties Australia is involved through the US military base at Pine Gap, which has been converted to a frontline base for NMD.
