A quick word of advice :
Form letters are easily dismissed by politicians so make changes to the letter below. This letter is only a model which you should expand or amend as you wish.
Dear .....
I am writing to urge the Australian Government to have nothing to do with National Missile Defense (NMD) or, as it is sometimes called, 'Star Wars'. All the signs coming from the new US administration indicate that they are keen to go ahead with this dangerous scheme. So far the Australian Government's approach, in which Mr. Downer said 'he understood' the US reasons for this scheme, is not reassuring.
The United Nations Secretary General, China, Russia, 50 Nobel laureates, a large portion of the US population and the US's own NATO allies opposed NMD.
The development and deployment of NMD threatens to destroy all the
international nuclear weapons reduction treaties that have been reached in recent years. Star Wars threatens to start a new nuclear arms race.
At the last session of the United Nations General Assembly, Australia
supported a number of resolutions concerning the elimination of nuclear weapons.
Any support of NMD by the Australian Government will completely negate all the previous work by Australia for nuclear disarmament.
Please oppose any use of Australian soil for any part of this dangerous weapons scheme by the US Government. I want the Australian Government not to give any support of any type to this appalling nuclear project. I want the Australian Government to work for nuclear disarmament.
Yours sincerely,
